Gap House – London, UK
2011 – Feasibility Study
Feasibility Study for an extension to a Victorian terraced house in north London. The proposal takes advantage of an empty space between the property and the neighboring house to generate an atrium where a new staircase would be located. The area gained by shifting the main vertical circulation out, is used to make the internal space planning more efficient for the ground and 1st floors, which is complemented by a 2 storey extension at the rear of the property housing a kitchen/dinning area and a 4th bedroom. In order to maintain the perception of a break between the houses when viewed from the street, which is a result of the different waves of development that took place in the area around the XIX century, the infill is recessed from the main facade and fully glazed at the top to maximize day light penetration.
