Finian Reece-Thomas

Part II Architectural Assistant

Finian joined Delvendahl Martin in 2021 after completing his MArch at Kingston School of Architecture and Landscape. His thesis project proposed a design for a school of art in Enugu, Nigeria and drew influence from works of fiction such as Chimimanda Ngozi Adichie’s “Purple Hibiscus” and Chinua Achebe’s “Things Fall Apart”. The project investigated historic and contemporary building typologies found in urban regions of western Africa such as the compound house and the pre-colonial palaces of Cameroon and was concerned with the creation of conditions for cultural reproduction. The project was nominated for a RIBA Silver Medal.

His specific architectural interests lie in the relationship between varied cultural, social and environmental contexts and the ways in which contemporary tectonics can respond and engage with these.

Outside of architecture, Finian enjoys music, football and cycling.
