Wick First Residential Development – London, UK

2022 – Planning

Delvendahl Martin Architects are currently working in collaboration with Hawkins\Brown and Studio Weave on the Hackney Wick Central Masterplan for Notting Hill Genesis and Equans, delivering 190 homes across three sites.

Delvendahl Martin Architects are responsible for the design of Block F, a 5-storey building providing two floors of commercial and community use and three floors of residential accomodation. Situated along a key pedestrian route and to the northern side of Hackney Wick Station, the building responds to the utilitarian industrial typology by purposing a single brick type and colour to full effect. It combines defining the primary frame and proportions of the building volume as well as articulating entrances and openings by crafting ornate brickwork stepping details and textures.

The selected brick references the industrial character of Hackney Wick and an element of craftsmanship is achieved by combining three different brick laying techniques: stretcher bond for the main building frame; recessed Flemish bond for infill panels; and hit and miss brickwork to all the balustrades. The building addresses the public realm with a series of double height glazed openings serving the commercial spaces.

A Reserved Matters Application has been submitted to the LLDC, and works are due to commence in the Autumn of 2022.
